Although Jose Mourinho’s time at Manchester United didn’t end as he would have liked, it was certainly eventful.
There have been many deals struck during Mourinho’s two and a half years at Old Trafford, with high profile names moving in and out of the club.
We took a look at the 15 players he sold as a United manager to see how they fared afterwards. Note: We have not included players who have left free transfers.
Tyler Reid
Reid was a United under-18 regular before joining Swansea City in 2016, but made only one first-team appearance during his three years at the club.
After spending a season in Swindon Town, the defender then signed for National League club Woking in October 2020.
Paddy McNair
After breaking through under Louis van Gaal, McNair joined David Moyes when he took over from Sunderland. It didn’t exactly go according to plan because they were disastrously relegated.
Now 25, he is currently at Middlesbrough and is a regular on the Northern Ireland national team.
Donald Love
Love only made two appearances for United’s first team and suffered a defeat on both occasions before leaving the same deal that brought McNair to the Stadium of Light.
Unlike the Northern Irish international, he was unable to stay in the league and is now plying his trade for Shrewsbury Town in League One.
Tyler Blackett
After going on loan to three different clubs, Blackett finally left Old Trafford for good in the summer of 2016, joining Reading under former United defender Jaap Stam.
The defender made 122 appearances for the Royals before joining Nottingham Forest in 2020.

Will Keane
Keane was a highly regarded candidate at United having regularly scored for their reserves, but a knee ligament injury halted his progress and derailed his career.
“A lot of football is timing, isn’t it? Being in the right place at the right time, ”Keane told the Manchester Evening News in 2019.
“It was tough for me as I had some big long term injuries. Even when I played, it was pretty stop-start. “
The striker remained in the Premier League with Hull City but could not prevent relegation in his debut season. He has since represented Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic.
James Weir
Like Keane, Weir’s early departure from Old Trafford saw the midfielder join Hull’s fight to stay in the Premier League.
Moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2019, the 25-year-old has taken the path less traveled and has now joined the Slovak side of Pohronie.

Morgan Schneiderlin
Having moved to United in a £ 24m move in the summer of 2015, the former Southampton player has never truly regained the form he had shown on the South Coast.
Schneiderlin made just eight appearances for Mourinho and joined Everton in January 2017. There, too, things did not go as planned and the midfielder returned to France with Nice in 2020.
Memphis Depay
Depay did not live up to expectations at Old Trafford and was deemed to exceed the requirements after midseason under Mourinho.
The striker joined Lyon in January 2017 and has started to realize his undoubted potential since moving to France, helping Ligue 1 reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2019-20.

Sean Goss
Despite impressing with reserves, Goss never managed to make a first-team appearance for United before being sold to QPR in 2017.
After a couple of loan spells in Scotland, the midfielder moved to Shrewsbury for good in 2019, joining Love.
Josh Harrop
Harrop made his senior debut against Crystal Palace in 2017 and scored the first goal, but turned down a new deal with the club in favor of regular minutes elsewhere.
The winger has joined Preston North End in a permanent deal and has made over 80 appearances for the league team since then.
Adnan Januzaj
There had been so much hope for Januzaj, but it ultimately didn’t satisfy her at Old Trafford and he was sold to Real Sociedad in 2017 after two loan periods away from the Red Devils.
The winger has resumed his La Liga career and is still capable of delivering magic on a soccer field.

Guillermo Varela
After joining United from Penarol in 2013, Varela made 11 first-team appearances before returning to his boys’ club in the summer of 2017.
The right-back returned to Europe with Danish side Copenhagen in 2019 and played against United in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
He is currently on loan to Dynamo Moscow, a Russian Premier League club, for the 2020-21 season.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Trading Mkhitaryan for Alexis Sanchez was as useful as trading a teapot of chocolate for a lead balloon.
The Armenian international didn’t make an impact at Arsenal and joined Roma on a permanent deal in 2020 after a successful loan spell with the Serie A side.
Sam Johnstone
After being out on loan 10 times, Johnstone joined West Bromwich Albion on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 and has been there ever since.
The goalkeeper thrived for the Baggies, becoming their number 1 and helping the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2019-20.
Daley Blind
Blind was one of the first names on the team card under Louis van Gaal and it seemed pretty inevitable that things would not be the same for Mourinho’s Dutchman.
After falling in the pecking order, it was eventually sold back to Ajax, where the versatile 30-year-old made nearly 250 appearances in two spells.
