Swisscom customers still without Play Suisse: has SRG forgotten its most loyal viewers?
Swisscom TV customers, above all, cannot access SRG’s new “Play Suisse” streaming platform. Some have to be patient for several more weeks. But there is a simple trick.
Note: At the end of the article it is explained how to easily watch Play Suisse on your TV without Apple TV or Android TV.
In fact, Swiss television got a coup this week. Not only SRF has achieved enormous success with the historic miniseries “Peace”. The specially developed streaming platform “Play Suisse” went online on time. A “Swiss Netflix”, not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of concept.
Everything went smoothly only for viewers with Apple TV or Android TV
“Play Suisse” is an SRG product. In all parts of the country, viewers can now stream movies like “Der Goalie bin ig” or series like “Wilder”. You have to register once to use it, there are no additional costs. We all pay for “Play Suisse” with radio and television license fees.
But of all people, the most loyal viewers are left behind. Swisscom TV is now called Blue TV and is the most popular television provider in Swiss households. Anyone looking for the “Play Suisse” app on the Blue TV platform will search in vain. This is very different for consumers with Apple TV or Android TV (e.g. TVs from Sony and Philips) – the new SRG app has been available on their devices since last weekend. And anyone who wanted to watch “Frieden” in full could do so before it was broadcast on linear television.
The new app was not working permanently on the Swisscom platform
Did he have to go so fast because of the beginning of “peace”? The premise is obvious: SRG did not want to do without the boost that the prestigious “Pace” project was able to give to the new app. So what went wrong in the Swiss relationship between SRG and Swisscom when things went well with international suppliers Google (Android) and Apple?
The integration of “Swiss Play” into the Swisscom TV app requires further technical work and tests, writes the SRG on request:
There is only good news for some Swisscom customers
SRG and Swisscom cannot guarantee the quality of Swisscom TV boxes. The anger among Swisscom customers is great. My editorial colleague Hansruedi Kugler, a film buff, sums it up. “If I wanted to watch ‘Peace’ in advance and in one go, then I had to use my computer or cell phone.” But Kugler didn’t want it either. And he’s right: at home he has a smart TV in front of the comfortable sofa. It would have been expected that the new Swiss streaming platform would also work in SRF viewers’ rooms with a Swisscom connection.
How long do they have to be patient? There is good news for Swisscom customers with the latest generation of TV boxes: it will start on Friday, promise SRG and Swisscom. What about the rest of the customers? “A few weeks later” and only with “a satisfying experience”, as the SRG writes.
