Declaration of the SFV on the new measures of the Federal Council

The Swiss Football Association (SFV) has taken note of today’s Federal Council decision to ban contact sports such as amateur football (with the exception of training for children and young people up to the age of 16).

The SFV is aware that reducing the number of new infections and the health of the population must have the highest priority, which is why it recognizes the need for these radical measures for grassroots football.

Since stricter measures for sport are still possible in the individual cantons in parallel with the orders of the Federal Council, the decision on how to proceed in match and training operations now rests with the individual departments (First League and Amateur League) and the thirteen regional associations of the SFV .

From the perspective of the SFV, the current federal government ban on amateur gaming represents an interruption (and not an end) to the current season. Since there are only a few rounds to play, this interruption equates to an early winter break. As a result, SFV recommends that affected regional departments and associations postpone the remaining matches this year to spring 2021.

For the national teams, these Federal Council measures unfortunately mean that the rest of the home teams of the senior national team (Spain, Ukraine) and U-21 (Azerbaijan) will probably not be able to have fans in the stadium. The women’s national team will no longer play a home game in 2020.
