“Life ahead”
For “The Life Ahead,” Sophia Loren collaborated for the third time with her son Edoardo Ponti, who is directing the drama.
In it, the 86-year-old fits into the role of Holocaust survivor Madame Rosa, who welcomes 12-year-old Muslim orphan Momo (Ibrahima Gueye), even though she stole her purse shortly before.
Momo has difficulty leaving
There he meets other children, who are cared for by Madame Rosa as carers, mainly children of prostitutes. Momo resists her new home, doesn’t want to change her lifestyle, sells drugs to school children for her boss dealer and rebels against Madame Rosa.
He develops respect for her only when he sees the number on her arm – Momo thinks Madame Rosa is a secret agent and starts making friends with her.
Mutual tolerance and understanding
The story is based on the novel “La vie devant soi” by Romain Gary, published in 1975 under the pseudonym of Emile Ajar.
As Loren told The Washington Post, she found Gary’s arguments timeless: “Immigration, tolerance and mutual understanding – these are matters that are still relevant today.” The original story takes place in the Belleville district of Paris; for the film, Edoardo Ponti moved the action to an Italian coastal town.

“Become you”
“When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut,” says a girl in a red dress. It is part of a six-part documentary series on Apple TV + that explores the question of what makes us who we are and how our beginning in life shapes us.
It was shot all over the world, with over one hundred children from ten countries. The film shows children from birth to age five and guides them as they learn to think, speak and move in the first two thousand days of their lives.
Different in growth
As Apple announced in a release, the documentary series is expected to show just how different a childhood growth and environment can be.
“Ultimately, however, the documentary revolves around our humanity and our community when it comes to raising children,” says the streaming service. British actress Olivia Colman will be the speaker through the stories.
