It’s been a year like no other, but Billie Eilish managed to hold on: the 18-year-old is the world’s most streamed artist on music streaming market leader Spotify for the second year in a row. She is followed by Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa.

Number one for men and generally international is Puerto Rico’s Latin trap and reggaeton singer Bad Bunny. It has collected more than 8.3 billion streams, according to Spotify’s annual “Wrapped” magazine. With his record “YHLQMDLG” he also delivered the most listened to album of 2020 with around 3.3 billion streams. Drake, J Balvin, Juice WRLD, and The Weeknd follow in the next posts.

Capital Bra and Loredana in the lead in Germany

In Germany, for the second time in a row, rapper Capital Bra has reached number one of the most listened to artists nationwide. Rappers Apache 207 and Samra are placed second and third in the overall ranking. Apache 207 secured first place on albums with its “Staircase” record.

The most streamed musician on Spotify in Germany is Swiss rapper Loredana, followed by singer-songwriter Lea and Billie Eilish. The most listened to song in Germany and internationally was “Blinding Lights” by Canadian musician The Weeknd.

Gardening and meditation

The year of lockdowns left its mark: Spotify users gave their playlists names that had to do with home office, gardening, hair cutting and cleaning. Podcasts on wellness and meditation have gained popularity around the world.

Spotify rated that younger people have listened to podcasts than before. In Germany, this once again benefited comedians Felix Lobrecht and Tommi Schmitt, who made it to number one with their “Mixed Hack” series. Jan Böhmermann and Olli Schulz follow in second place with “Fest & Flauschig”, and the third place of the most popular podcasts on Spotify is occupied by the daily format “Tagesschau in 100 seconds”.
