The new feature, similar to that offered by the popular Chinese social network TikTok, will be anonymous and will not allow you to leave comments.
The social network Snapchat has created its own section of short videos, dubbed Spotlight, and will distribute up to a million dollars a day among the most popular authors, according to A.D this Monday via his official Twitter account.
“Submit your best video snaps, the best creators can earn a share of over a million dollars every day,” he explains in a promotional video about the new tool. “Or just sit back, watch and choose your favorites,” the company adds.
According to the Xataca portal, it is not the first social network that chooses to offer money to attract users, since, for example, Instagram does the same with its ‘Reels’ feature. In Snapchat’s case, rewards will only be available to those users who are over 16 years old.
Furthermore, the application intends to anonymize its new platform to favor those people whose videos are most popular, and not so much the famous or influential. However, any content creator of that social network can advertise and reveal their identity if they so wish.
How does it work?
As with TikTok, Spotlight has videos that play automatically and lets you change images by swiping the screen up or down. One of the differences with the famous Chinese application is that the new Snapchat section does not give the possibility to leave comments.
If that user chooses not to tag their videos as public, they will only be available to their friends. In case they are open, each of them will be distributed to at least 100 people, who can select specific topics that interest them according to their tastes.
Snapchat assures that Spotlight, which for now will only be available in the United States and some European countries, will be moderated “by humans and” software “”, arguing that its priority is “the health of users” to prevent them from suffering kind of abuse, as occurs in other social networks.
