Another 20,000 doses of the flu vaccine arrived in Slovenia, which the National Institute of Public Health has already distributed among health centers. Vulnerable groups – the elderly, the chronically ill, children and pregnant women – should be vaccinated with them as a priority. Health centers hope to receive a third shipment of the vaccine by the end of the year, even though the flu vaccine is virtually no longer on the world market due to the pandemic.
In a record three weeks, 250,000 people were vaccinated against influenza in Slovenia. With that, all vaccine supplies were dispatched, so nursing homes, and even those who didn’t queue, were delighted with the long-awaited additional shipment of doses. Tomaž Gantar, underlined the Minister of Health “Of course, the priority is the elderly, the sick, the threatened and only then those who might want to insure themselves”.
The stock is limited. Slovenia has only received 20,000 additional doses, so health centers will receive far fewer vaccines than they want. Alexander Jus from the Medical Center dott. Aldof Drolec of Maribor said they were already a “I immediately ordered another 5,000 doses the first time I received the vaccine, but unfortunately we only received 900.”. The interest, however, remains considerable. After two days of ordering, only about 300 doses are available at the Adolf Drolec Maribor health center. “Tomorrow we will basically fill all these appointments for more vaccinations, so we will have to stop ordering again”, explained Jus.
Vulnerable groups, meanwhile, are still placing orders at the Ljubljana Health Center. But the fact is that this year there will be no vaccine for those who would like to be vaccinated. “That is to say, other countries can no longer get additional vaccines on the market. It should be noted that the interest in influenza vaccination is significantly higher this year. Not because it is free this year, but also for covid” , Minister Gantar explained.
Jus also pointed out that 3,725 people were vaccinated last year, but this year the increase is really more significant, there will be 9,500 vaccinations.
