LOOK: Aline Danioth, a good month ago you were badly injured. Only now are they speaking publicly. Do you need this time?
Aline Danioth: Yes, already this time. It was a big blow. I had a mess in my head and had to fix it first.
You were returning from a ruptured cruciate ligament. Does the renewed wound make it even more bitter?
I’ve been giving my all for my comeback for months and I’ve felt better than ever in training. And then this incident. I don’t know what I should have done differently.
Did you look for the reasons?
Anyhow. My first thought after hearing the knee bang was: what did I do wrong? But eventually it got stupid.
What exactly happened
The snow was very aggressive, I was on my fifth training run. A great day. Then I got a little late in the corner, sat too far back. The ski grabbed and the pressure came. That’s when it happened.
They have already undergone an operation. The drill channels from the last operation were filled with bone material. What’s next?
I usually have to wait four months for the cruciate ligament to be replaced. But eventually the X-rays will show when the time comes.
What are you doing in the meantime?
In December I will fly to Hawaii for a six week language study trip. I just have to get away from the things I love so much: winter and skiing.
Do you want to clear your head?
I agree. I will also do my strength and fitness program in Hawaii. But I want to switch off, go hiking on volcanoes, ride a bike. And I’ll be in the water a lot.
But don’t surf, right?
It’s probably not possible, no (smiles)
At 22 he already had five knee operations. Is resignation a problem?
I’m already thinking about what Plan B could be like. And I’m also open to ideas. But I don’t think there is anything in life that can enjoy me as much as skiing.
You could also spend your free time in the snow.
Is not the same thing. I am a competitive guy, I need the goals and the challenge. My heart can hardly bear the fact that I can’t ski again. But I keep fighting – that’s how I am.
