Louis Schaub was instrumental on the pitch at the Stade de Genève in FC Luzern’s 3-1 away win against Servette FC. The Austrian international was involved in practically every action in the opposing half, performed extremely smart on the ball and impressed with his efficiency. He was directly involved in all of his team’s goals:
- 23. Minute: The Lucerne team licked the opponent’s ball while building the game. Dejan Sorgic plays on Schaub. The 25-year-old remains calm, leaves Servettes Steve Rouiller with a hook and runs confidently at 1-0 for the visitors.
- 67. Minute: Schaub served Sorgic with a fine outside foot pass, which smoothly hit his third goal of the season. Central Switzerland cheers hesitantly at first, but Sorgic is not offside: 2-0 for FCL.
- 79. Minute: Schaub has plenty of time in the Geneva penalty area and puts forward Ibrahima Ndiaye at the 2nd post. This easily pushes to the final 3: 1 result.
Lucerna survives critical minutes
However, the team of coach Fabio Celestini almost gave up the victory. Rouiller scores from a corner kick in the 77th minute and suddenly brings Servette back onto the pitch. But Lucerne remained calm and immediately restored their 2 goal lead.
The home team could not create many chances during the 90 minutes and had a lot of problems building the game. The replacement of last year’s top scorer Miroslav Stevanovic, recovering from a knee injury, brought new momentum, but it wasn’t enough to win a point against Lucerne with the formidable Schaub. So Servette is now at the bottom of the table with one game less.
So it goes on
Lucerne receive Sion next Wednesday and want to continue their uptrend. Servette will also play at home to FC Zurich on Wednesday.
