Samsung NEON – Surreal digital avatars may be coming to Galaxy phones soon

Technologies for the implementation of artificial intelligence have been in the spotlight of major manufacturers for several years. These would be the key to the future and would revolutionize the way we interact with technology. At the CES 2020 show, Samsung presented NEON, the technology through which they can be created digital avatars, surreal and with their own identity. Today we discover new details about it.

The technology was created by a small startup, Star Labs and seriously funded by Samsung. It looked sci-fi a few months ago when it was unveiled, mostly because of these avatars they are not designed to be virtual assistants like Siri, Cortana or Alexa. They are thought of as “virtual beings” generated by a computer, which looks and behaves like a real human being. Initially, Samsung planned to implement NEON into screens that should have been placed on the wall, through which you can interact with your virtual friend. However, the latest information suggests that Samsung wants to bring NEON to smartphones.

Star Labs President and CEO Pranav Mistry recently revealed this on Twitter the technology is already running on its testing phone and is ready to roll out starting next month. Of course, it will only work on high-end Samsung terminal models.

However, all this information does not explain what NEON really is. Personally, I’m thinking of Cortana, which is found in the Halo game series, but this time with much more realistic avatars. At the same time, we could see the AR technology put to work and the companions appear in front of us through the cameras of the devices.

Although Samsung has stated that they are not virtual assistants, it is not yet excluded that Bixby will receive a body, along with a facial figure, emotions and a personality. At least in the testing phase, until more avatars are available. I think Samsung will score a first this way in the world of virtual assistants and would cause more users to use Bixby, which is not enjoying much popularity at the moment.
