The processor is developed in collaboration with Vivo and includes a new 5G mmWave modem, specially built to support the bands used in China. Compliant Engadget China, the microprocessor will debut on a still unknown Vivo phone in the near future.

In terms of specs, the Exynos 1080 has 8 cores: four Cortex A78, three of which are clocked at 2.2GHz and one at 2.8GHz, and a further four Cortex A55, clocked at 2.0GHz. The GPU is a Mali G78, which can support 90Hz QHD displays.

Samsung then joins rivals Apple and Huawei, who in turn have announced 5nm processors in recent months – the A14 Bionic and Kirin 9000 respectively, both of which are true “monstrosities” in terms of performance. Exynos 1080 will most likely be available on mid-range phones that will be available in Europe next year.
