Rumors about the GPU: GeForce RTX 3080 Ti comes with 20GB of GDDR6X

Not as specific as references to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti are the rumors about a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which Nvidia has to place between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. Twitter user known for often accurate information kopite7kimi has now specified the alleged specifications.

RTX 3080 Ti for the gap between RTX 3080 and RTX 3090

I had it a week ago @ kopite7kimi Notes on the GA102-250-A1 as another variant of the faster ampere GPU for the bundled GeForce graphics cards. According to this, the chip is expected to have 9,984 Cuda cores and a 384-bit memory interface, which suggests 12GB of memory. Now the Twitter user is in step and explicitly names the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition with GA102-250-KD-A1.

With 10,496 FP32 units, this variant should have the same Cuda core count as the GeForce RTX 3090 with GA102-300. 20GB GDDR6X memory is also mentioned. The memory should run at the same speed as the GeForce RTX 3080, which would mean 19 Gbps. With a 320-bit memory interface, the maximum memory throughput would be 760 GB / s. The alleged RTX 3080 Ti is also said to share the 320-watt TDP with the RTX 3080. This at least suggests that the compute units run at a lower clock rate than the RTX 3090 with 350-watt TDP and 24GB GDDR6X. Another difference to the flagship RTX 3090 is the lack of NVLink for pairing two graphics cards (SLI).

Whether the key data is correct remains to be seen. Instead of an RTX 3080 Ti, an RTX 3080 was expected with memory doubled to 20GB. It is unclear if Nvidia actually discontinued it or if the information was simply wrong. At least rumors about another model between RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 prove persistent.
