Roccat, the brand with the feline mystical, has released a new 7.1 wireless headset for PC, we took this opportunity and took a closer look at the ELO 7.1 Air.
Regarding the sound image test, I have tested the following movies, games and music tracks in order to draw a comparable conclusion. For completeness I have listed them here for you:
Spotify / PC / Shaun Baker – Explode
Spotify / PC / Sabaton – Bismarck
PC / Blu-Ray / Soldat James Ryan
PC / CS: GO, Valorant
PS4 / World of Warships: Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, Battlefield V
Nintendo Switch / The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Rocket League
The microphone sound recordings were recorded under the same conditions and with the same text in Audacity, as was usual in our previous tests. In addition to the test scenarios mentioned above, the headset has also been used in everyday life for a longer period of time.
The Roccat ELO 7.1 Air was made available to us for testing. However, this will not affect our neutrality in this test.

Comfortable to wear with lots of RGB and subtle sound
Roccat Elo 7.1 Air should meet high demands in terms of comfort, especially thanks to the support headband that rests under the metal bracket, which gives the entire headset greater stability. The ear cushions surrounding the ears isolate you well from the outside world, they are made of synthetic leather, which shouldn’t please everyone, because you often start sweating faster here. The rest of the headset is made of plastic and still looks very valuable. The design is completed by RGB lighting, which illuminates the Roccat logo on one side and the Roccat lettering on the other. You don’t have to have it because after all, while you have headphones on, you can’t see it. But as one sage said, RGB brings at least 5 FPS more and improves your K / D in shooters by approximately 0.5.
Dieter turns up the bass
The Roccat Elo 7.1 Air was already capable of designing and working, but how does it sound? Let’s now move on to the almost most important aspect of a headset, the sound image. It is important to mention here that we used the headset out of the box with no Roccat Swarm software available. If you haven’t installed it to adjust the equalizer, the whole soundscape looks very flat and has no depth, even the mids remain outside. Dieter, please turn up the bass! With the Roccat Swarm software, we twisted the equalizer a bit and got a pretty good sound.
Finally a wireless headset for the Nintendo Switch
Yes, Roccat Elo 7.1 Air also comes with Nintendo Switch compatibility. Why, why and why it’s not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, I stay away, because it certainly wouldn’t hurt to advertise this compatibility. On Nintendo Switch, the volume control on the headphones also works directly. A plus here for Nintendo Switch as it doesn’t work on PS4. Unfortunately, a negative point is not far off. The microphone is not supported. Well, that’s not a problem either, as Nintendo uses mobile software for voice channels, which you also need to download from the App Store or Google Play Store.
Nothing for smartphones
Speaking of our popular mobile devices. Unfortunately, the Elo 7.1 Air doesn’t provide us with any smartphone support. As far as I know, there are no options for iOS users or Android users. I think it’s a shame as I prefer to listen to music on my smartphone with headphones during my gaming sessions. Also, the Roccat headset starts up without a jack connection. Whether you’ve copied anything from Apple here is debatable, but it’s still a shame as an alternate cable connection is practical if you run out of battery fuel.

Conclusion
If you are looking for a console headset with Roccat ELO 7.1 Air, sadly you will be disappointed with this one. It works very well with the latest generation of consoles, but has its problems here and there. However, if you are looking for a new wireless headset for your PC, you will not be disappointed with the ELO 7.1 Air in my opinion. With the right Roccat Swarm software you also have the good tuned sound from Turtle Beach. The weak points of the headset can be eliminated with the equalizer. If anyone is looking for a wireless headset for the Nintendo Switch, I think the 7.1 Air will serve them very well. And by the way, don’t forget that the ELO 7.1 Air is also suitable for those who wear glasses.
The Roccat ELO 7.1 Air is available in stores from 4 October 2020 and costs € 99.99.
