Daniel Ricciardo couldn’t hide his excitement ahead of Sunday’s Bahrain Grand Prix as he predicted the race would be a two-stop affair, following Friday’s free practice sessions in the Kingdom.

The Renault driver, who finished fifth fastest behind Racing Point’s Sergio Perez in FP2 in the spotlight, said the long runs meant the drivers would have to stop twice in the race, opening up a number of strategic possibilities for Sunday. Are you excited?

IDEAL LAP: Hamilton is the fastest on the first day in Bahrain, but is Verstappen really the man to watch?

“I definitely am,” Ricciardo replied. “In the morning we were stable but in the evening we took it back and [made] a few tweaks to the FP2s and yes the car was fine. I think the pace of a lap was decent; long distances, I think there will be two stops here, quite clearly.

“We haven’t had one in a while in a dry race, so this should create a bit more variation on Sunday.”
