Renato Steffen the match winner for Wolfsburg – Lazaro di Gladbach’s goal of the year

Wolfsburg won their second victory in the 7th round of the Bundesliga thanks to a goal and an assist from Renato Steffen. Lower Saxony win 2-1 at home to Hoffenheim.

Although Wolfsburg are still unbeaten in the current season, the points performance has been relatively poor due to five draws so far. That it was enough for three points this time was thanks to Wolfsburg Steffen and goalkeeper Koen Casteels, who saved a penalty from former grasshopper Munas Dabbur in injury time and thus prevented the 2-2.

Steffen had already scored Wolfsburg in the 5th minute with his first goal of the season leading. After just under half an hour he fooled the Hoffenheim defense again, but failed due to goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. The ball came back to him via deflections. His clever pass allowed Wout Weghorst to score 2-0. Subsequently, the Dutchman missed the possible 3-0 from the penalty point.

Mönchengladbach lost despite a dream goal

Apart from Wolfsburg, Leverkusen are the only other Bundesliga club undefeated after seven rounds. Dutch team Peter Bosz had the best at home against the equally strong Borussia Mönchengladbach 4: 3. Twice the Gladbach team led with Lars Stindl, twice Leverkusen managed to equalize in the first half with Lucas Alario, who has scored seven times in his last four Bundesliga games.

Yann Sommer made an unfortunate figure in Mönchengladbach’s 2-2 goal, as he flew over the flank towards Alario. And at 2: 3 in the 68th minute, Leon Bailey hit him with a blow between the legs. Leverkusen’s third goal in the 68th minute was particularly bitter for the Gladbachers, as their Austrian striker Hannes Wolf had shot over the empty net from five meters earlier. The fact that Wolf’s compatriot Valentino Lazaro scored the best goal of the match in injury time with a 3: 4 – an acrobatic feat – was a small consolation for Gladbach’s side.
