Red Dead Online will soon appear separately from the main game Red Dead Redemption 2. Who should watch the wild west adventure?
When will Red Dead Online appear as a standalone? As early as December 1st, you can protect Red Dead Online as a standalone game. Until now, you needed the main game Red Dead Redemption 2, of which Red Dead Online was previously more than the online mode, where you could roam the Wild West with friends.
It will continue to be like this, but you can get that mode online from December without the main game. Appears in:
- PlayStation Store
- Microsoft Store
- Rockstar Games Launcher
- Epic Games Store
- and on Steam
The download should be 123GB. The game will initially cost € 4.99, but only until February 2021. So the game will probably cost € 19.99 (Rockstar talks about an introductory price with a 75% discount until February).
What is Red Dead Online? Red Dead Online offers a wide variety of stories, missions and roles that you can take on together. Several updates have already turned players into bounty hunters, naturalists or grappa distillers. The last really big update was a while back and it appeared in July, but since then there has been at least one small zombie update for Halloween. There’s a lot more going on in GTA Online in comparison.
In an interview, the developers talked about the future of the game and indicated that they want to introduce new characters and add more action. Subsequently, the role of bounty hunter will be expanded in Red Dead Online and the standalone version will appear.
Who should get the standalone version?
Logical: If you already have Read Dead Redemption 2, you don’t need to get Red Dead Online on your own. Finally, the online component is still included in the main game. The offer is more likely to be aimed at newcomers.
It’s worth a look if:
- you avoided Red Dead Redemption 2 due to the long history, but you don’t want to spend that much money on Red Dead Online. If you basically prefer to play multiplayer games and have therefore ignored RDR 2, this may be your chance.
- you are looking for an online game that largely captures the Wild West atmosphere and wishes to save money. Then RDO is worth it at the mentioned introductory price.
- you have already played Red Dead Online as part of the main game on a different platform, but now you want to switch platforms. For example, if you’ve played RDR2 on PC but want to take online mode with you to PS5 or Xbox Series X. Thanks to backward compatibility, this would be possible, but you’ll probably have to start over.
- Friends have already told you about Red Dead Online, but so far you haven’t just wanted to buy the entire game for online mode.
The last point should be aimed primarily at all those Red Dead fans who can’t get enough of the cowboy epic. For example, a 65-year-old has played the main game 30 times but still doesn’t have enough.
