Annual health exams track a student’s growth and development, support strengths, and provide lifestyle guidance. They can identify support needs and address concerns and problems promptly. Concerns such as lack of friends, bullying at school, mental health, a family member’s illness, or substance abuse can arise.
Thorough health checks carried out in collaboration with a nurse and a doctor will familiarize the whole family.
Additional visits to school health care will continue to clarify issues, plan support and treatment, and, if necessary, initiate cooperation with a teacher, school carer, psychologist or other necessary professional. Support and follow-up with additional visits will continue for as long as necessary.
In school health care, the nurse and doctor act as a working couple. School nurses know the student’s overall health and learning environment. This, combined with the professionalism of the doctor, offers a great opportunity to act in a timely manner for the benefit of the child and the family.
Partly Municipal nurses have been left alone to provide all school health care, and medical resources are directed solely at medical care. The school doctor’s resource can be so limited that after problems are detected, it is not possible to arrange further visits or take care of things in the future. Only ten minutes may be reserved for a medical examination, or the joint health tests performed by a nurse and a doctor have not even been proven.
Inadequately managed, organized and performed jobs, medical examinations are said to seem “duplication of work” or “unnecessary”. Desired benefits, such as the confidential customer relationship required to request assistance or early identification of concerns, cannot be achieved with poorly implemented services.
