David Chou, chief information and digital officer at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City (Mo.), shares blockchain advice and how health IT leaders in hospitals and healthcare systems can see success with the enterprise-wide adoption of technology.

Question: where is now the blockchain in the health sector and how will it develop in 2019?
David Chou: As I wrote in my blog in November 2018, there should be no more excuses about the lack of platform to use for the development of a blockchain solution, since we finally have an explosion of important platforms. However, it takes market education and tangible use cases to turn buzz into a viable and effective model.
Q: What do you think will be the most significant blockchain applications in the healthcare sector over the next five years?
A.D: There are currently six main players in the blockchain game: Microsoft, Google, [International Business Machines Corp.], [Hewlett Packard Enterprise], Oracle Corp. and Amazon.
For anyone who wants to win in the blockchain game, they must be the masters of creating a trusted community that wants to work together to solve a problem using blockchain.
Q: What do the blockbenches of blockchain hospitals and healthcare systems know today?
A.D: Since everything related to healthcare, community and crowdsourcing are the key to emerging as a strong platform and getting company-wide adoption. What gains more momentum through numerous tested use cases, while still few, will win the trust of the community.
