Qualcomm gets White House permission to sell 4G cell phone chips to Huawei

US firm Qualcomm has obtained permission from the White House to sell 4G cell phone chips to Chinese tech giant Huawei, a spokesperson for the California-based company revealed to Reuters on Saturday.

“We have received a license for multiple products, which include some 4G products, “explained the representative of Qualcomm, who along with other American semiconductor companies had to stop sales with this Chinese company in September due to restrictions that Washington has imposed on Beijing due to the trade war between the two nations.

Stacy Rasgon, an analyst at Bernstein, believes the license granted to Qualcomm would have “limited impact” as it affects 4G chips only, and most consumers are starting to use 5G technology devices.
