Playstation 5 greed also attracts scammers, including those offering PS5 photos at unbeatable prices. Ebay now wants to take action against it. But it’s not that easy.
When the Playstation 5 officially launched on November 19th, the Sony console was sold out in no time. Now the scammers are trying to cash in on the desire of many fans for a PS5. On the one hand, so-called scalpers have apparently insured consoles with the help of bots and are selling them at inflated prices. But the attempt to make customers pay for the photos of the new Playstation or the empty boxes is even more daring.
PS5 photos and empty boxes on Ebay
Such fraudulent offers are currently piling up on Ebay, as Winfuture writes. For example, a seller asks for a photo of a PS5 still in its original packaging in a case for up to 999 euros for immediate purchase. Empty PS5 boxes are also available. According to Eurogamer, there are several dozen offers with PS5 photos, some with realistic offers.

Our short search on ebay.de found only a few matching offers, all without offers. It looked a little different on ebay.com. There were some offers, but many indicated that high false offers were made here so that no sales could be made. In all of them, both the title and description indicated that you were bidding for a photo. However, true fraud attempts cannot be found with a quick search.
Ebay wants to take action against fake offers
According to Eurogamer, Ebay has announced its intention to prevent fraudulent offers with PS5 photos. According to Ebay you condemn these types of sellers who try to mislead others. One is in the process of removing all photo offers from the PS5 from the market. But it hasn’t happened so far. At least not in full. Ebay is likely to reach its limits when trying to remove photos. After all, the sellers of the offers we have seen clearly indicate that they are just photos.
PS5: The Quasimodo among the consoles under test
A much bigger problem is likely to be PS5 offerings on Ebay or other platforms that don’t show at first or second glance that it’s an empty photo or box. At least in Britain, after the start of deliveries, complaints from buyers who received completely different products in place of Sony’s Nextgen console, such as cat food or other electrical devices, increased. Some even received an empty box.
