Gheorghe Hagi surprised Romanian football every season with the achievements of FC Viitorul, and now “Regele” hopes to give it a new shot to move to the next level.

Hagi has achieved countless performances on the bench of his team, FC Viitorul, but, as of this summer, “Regele” has retired from the center of attention and has now resumed his work from the office to lead the club to Ovidiu to the next level: European cup groups.

Gheorghe Hagi’s place was taken on the technical bench by the Iberian Ruben of Barrera Fernandez. After a hesitant start to the season, with disappointing results, FC Viitorul have begun to adapt to the training methods of the new manager, and now the Constanta club have six consecutive unbeaten games in League I and have made it back to the playoffs, after the first nine stages played.

FC Viitorul Club was founded by Gheorghe Hagi, in 2009, an extremely ambitious project that has captured Romanian football every season. Just a year after its appearance, Ovidiu’s team managed to be promoted to the Second League. He stayed one season and in 2011/2012 he even managed to enter the first championship. Difficult seasons followed for FC Viitorul, who escaped relegation each time with great emotion, but in 2014 Gheorghe Hagi took over as manager and moved to the bench of his team.

And the results were not long in coming. In the 2016/2017 season, FC Viitorul produced the big surprise and won the fight decided in the last phase with the FCSB for the title of champion in League I. Two years later, the other two trophies appeared internally, and now, after having also won the Romanian Cup and the Super Cup, Gheorghe Hagi wants more than just participation in the Europa League preliminaries or even the Champions League.

The “King” hopes to give the big shot and bring FC Viitorul into the European Cup groups, and to do so he turned to some important Romanian entrepreneurs. After the negotiations with the Pavăl brothers, owners of the Dedeman chain of stores, failed, Gheorghe Hagi has now started negotiations with Dan Şucu, owner of Mobexpert, who has an estimated fortune of 125 million euros.

As Viitorul president Gheorghe Popescu also admitted, Dan Şucu is in advanced talks to become a shareholder of Ovidiu’s team. The two teams are very close to applauding, so Hagi can already make his plan for next season when FC Viitorul may even hope to join the European Cup groups.
