Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas pamper themselves with diyas while celebrating Diwali in London

Priyanka Chopra played at the Hindu Diwali party this Saturday in London with her husband Nick Jonas.

In a photo she posted on Instagram, the 38-year-old Bollywood icon wore a floral sari in shades of red and fiery orange, perfectly suited to the ‘party of lights’.

Both she and her husband were holding diyas, the ceramic ceremonial candles that are lit for Diwali, which is the largest festival in the Hindu calendar.

‘Happy Diwali to all who celebrate. From our family to yours, ” Priyanka titled her photo, where she wore a pair of Indian-style earrings.

In Hindu mythology Diwali marks the day when Ram, the incarnation of the god Vishnu, returned home after saving his wife kidnapped by the demon king Ravan.

Nick and Priyanka celebrated several holidays during the Hindu holidays: last week they played together with Karva Chauth.

Karva Chauth is a Hindu holiday where traditionally married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the long lives of their husbands.

In recent years some couples have adapted to changing times by causing both spouses to keep the fast, but it is not known whether Nick did.

Before playing Karva Chauth in Los Angeles and Diwali in London, Priyanka was spotted rushing to spend some time in Berlin.

While he didn’t publicly specify what he was doing in Germany, there were rumors that he was shooting the fourth Matrix movie there, PinkVilla reports.

Priyanka and Nick also celebrated Holi, the festival of colors, at a Bollywood party in Bombay this March, just before India entered the coronavirus lockdown.

Their hostess was Priyanka’s maid of honor Isha Ambani – whose father is the richest man in Asia – and her husband Anand Piramal, himself the son of a billionaire.

Isha and Anand, who got married in December 2018 just two weeks after Priyanka and Nick, famously hired Beyonce for a private performance at their wedding functions.

Meanwhile, Priyanka, who spent part of her teens in America, was familiar with Western holidays before meeting Nick, but found they had a whole new meaning for her once she integrated into her family.

“I mean, it’s culturally that it’s so different, I guess, but they’re so understanding of everything here,” Priyanka said on the Indian talk show Koffee With Karan right after her wedding.

“For me, it’s culturally different when I go, you know, her family and I like to do Thanksgiving, which we used to do just for fun and now it’s important.”

The Quantico star added: ‘You know, so I’m learning stuff like that too, and it’s fun. It’s like a cultural exchange, I guess.
