Prince Charles, like many people in these pandemic times, discreetly celebrated his 72nd birthday on Saturday, DPA reports.
According to the Ministry of Defense, regular shootings across the country in honor of Charles’ birthday have been suspended this year due to the pandemic.
Charles’s eldest son Prince William posted his father’s birthday wishes on Twitter. On the Instagram of Clarence House, the official London residence of the Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the legend, together with a photo of Charles in kilt, expresses thanks for the good wishes.
Prince Charles is the son of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He is also Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay, titles traditionally held by the heir to the throne of England and Scotland respectively. Prince Charles is the heir who wore this title for the longest time in the history of Great Britain.
Being the son of a ruler’s daughter, Charles would normally not have been entitled to the title of Prince, but would inherit the secondary title of his father, the Earl of Merioneth. However, on October 22, 1948, George VI issued a deed by which all the children of Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh received the status of royal prince.
