PreP, preventive treatment
The acronym PreP stands for Pre-exposure prophylaxis : as the name suggests, it is a treatment to be taken before a possible exposure to the virus, and therefore, in a preventive way. Authorized in France since 2016, it is intended for people who are not carriers of the virus, but who are considered at high risk of exposure to HIV. 100% refunded, the treatment now worries more than 10,000 people according to data from the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM).
As the website of the Aides association indicates, to obtain it it is necessary to consult in a hospital service specializing in HIV treatment or in an information, screening and diagnosis center. TasP, prevents transmission
When HIV viral load is undetectable, it cannot be passed on. This is the goal of Treatment as a prevention, Treatment as Prevention in English (TasP). This slows down the multiplication of the virus in the body of a person already infected with HIV and, in the long term, reduces its quantity to such an extent that it becomes undetectable and therefore non-transmissible. TasP is aimed at all HIV-positive people and protects their HIV-positive partners, even without wearing a condom.
TPE, emergency treatment
Unlike PreP, TPE is a file Post-exposure treatment who gets caught after unprotected or poorly protected sex – or any other risky behavior. It consists of a triple therapy of one month. To use it, go to the emergency room as soon as possible after exposure to HIV. There, a doctor will consider prescribing a TPE.
