The Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in the LX Legislature promotes a proposal to create the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicines of the State of Mexico.
The goal of this initiative is to save and maintain the knowledge of indigenous peoples so that they are not lost, but are strengthened and, therefore, recognized.
To say of the deputies of the PRD, Traditional medicine is constituted as an inherited traditional practice and of great importance because it is the sum of knowledge, techniques and practices based on theories, beliefs and experiences of different cultures, which are used to maintain physical and mental health.
They add it the use of medicinal plants that indigenous peoples have protected and which, moreover, have an incalculable value in strengthening and preserving the identity of indigenous cultures such as the Nahuatl, Otomí, Tlahuica, Matlazinza and Mazahua ethnic groups, which represent 985,000 690 indigenous people, or 6.5% of the Entity’s population, with great knowledge of health protection, according to the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples.
“It is a fact that even today, for the indigenous population, traditional medicine is the main, and sometimes the only resource for health care” Deputy Claudia González Cerón assured.
The parliamentary fraction PRD expresses that with the Institute this knowledge will not only be saved, but also, the use of traditional medicine can be extended and extended to all sectors of the Mexican population.
Lawmakers ensure that these treatments have been positioned as an option for disease treatment.
“Since they are more natural, less invasive to the human body and also cheaper, they provide effective results, as its practice, exercise and principles are fundamentally based on medicinal herbs, ”they point out.
