The Portuguese team celebrated today a friendly against Andorra (7-0) in which they had no rivals on the field, with a victory opened by the rookies and culminating in Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix.
The goals of rookies Pedro Neto and Paulinho (2), together with those of Renato Sanches, Cristiano and João Félix, and a goal for the Pyrenees team, certified the victory of the “quinas”, who started with morale for the decisive duel on Saturday, in which the qualifiers for the League of Nations will be played against France.
The game was a constant siege by the Portuguese, especially in the second half, when Fernando Santos decided to eliminate the heavy artillery.
At the beginning he had a starting eleven full of substitutes and with three firsts: central defender Domingos Duarte (Granada) and forwards Pedro Neto (Wolverhampton) and Paulinho (Braga). The forwards made their dream debut, with a goal.
Neto, the first player born in 2000 to play for Portugal, took just eight minutes to open his scoring account with the national team.
At the far post Paulinho headed for Sérgio Oliveira who, instead of trying to score, gave a touch to leave him to the Wolverhampton rookie, who opened the scoring with a strong shot.
In order not to be left behind, Paulinho also saw the goal. Renato Sanches puts in a ball from the right and the Braga striker anticipates the Andorran defense for the second.
Although the “quinas” dominated without problems, Santos decided to start serving the heavyweights after the break, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva.
The Juventus striker, in search of his own record – eight goals from becoming the player who has scored the most goals for his national team in all history – came onto the pitch hungry and eager to score.
But despite Madeira’s attempts, it was Renato Sanches who made the third. Cristiano runs to the left and serves the ball to the Lille player, who makes no mistake due to the passivity of the Pyrenean defense.
Paulinho, dissatisfied with his debut with a single goal, extends the Portuguese victory with his head.
Santos continued to design the artillery and gave access to João Félix and Diogo Jota, while Cristiano kept looking for a target that eluded him.
The Madeira player saw Portugal’s fifth pass before his eyes, when a ball that had hit Emili García passed within a meter of him and ended with an own goal.
Eventually, he managed to sign the sixth with a header on a Mário Rui center.
Athletic João Félix finished the win with a volley with his left foot in the heart of the area.
After the party, Portugal will host France in Lisbon on Saturday, in a decisive match as both are tied for points in the group, then they will travel to Croatia to close the qualifying round.
