Vaccination coverage against poliomyelitis reached 74.89% in Rio Preto, according to the Municipal Health Department, a percentage equal to 14,342 doses administered during the campaign that began on 5 October. The objective advocated by the Ministry of Health is to immunize at least 95% of the relevant public: children from one year to less than five years. Due to the poor grip, the campaign has been extended and continues until 13 November.
In the same period, the Ministry of Health also promoted the multivaccination campaign, which aims to update the vaccination card for children and adolescents under 15 years of age. To date, 37,676 doses of different vaccines have been administered, including 14,343 doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV). In addition to paralysis, the virus is responsible for poliomyelitis syndrome, which attacks the nervous system and appears in those who have had the disease, at least 15 years later.
“For the multivaccination campaign, the goal is to regain coverage of the routines indicated for children and adolescents, achieving the recommended goals, which can vary from 80% to 95%, depending on each vaccine. As for the campaign against the polio, We still need to vaccinate 3,850 children to reach the goal, and ensure the protection of all, preventing the return of the disease, “explains Michela Barcelos, head of vaccination at the Department of Health.
The vaccine rooms are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Locations and addresses can be accessed via this link: www.riopreto.sp.gov.br/mapavacinas.
