Tomorrow the PS5 will also be available in Germany and other countries – such as the Xbox Series X – from last week. The first sales figures are now available. Which next generation console is popular with gamers?
Also from Japan, the first sales figures have now arrived for the new generation platforms PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, already available in both cases. Who will win the first shot after Sony was leading across the board in the last generation?
Once again, the PlayStation 5 in the land of the rising sun is way ahead of its Microsoft counterpart. According to the famous Famitsu, the Sony console has sold 118,000 times in the first four days of its release. The Xbox Series X / S only sold 21,000 units. So the first clear points win for Sony. Interesting side note: 88% of PS5 buyers opted for the disc drive model, only 12% for the digital edition. Xbox Series X / S is not split between models.
That Sony is so clearly ahead in Japan is not surprising. The Xbox has always had trouble catching on there, while the PlayStation is one of the most successful platforms in the land of the rising sun. Comparing the initial sales figures from the US and Europe should therefore be much more interesting.
There are also interesting figures for the launch titles on PS5: Spider-Man had the most successful start: Miles Morales with 18,640 sales, Demon’s Souls followed with 18,607 copies.
