Unlike the Xbox Series X and Series S (test), which also support 1440p aka WQHD, the PlayStation 5 is initially limited to 1080p aka Full HD and 2160p aka 4K / UHD – MSI wants to change that to a special console mode at least on its monitors. , but this is not a native solution for WQHD either.

MSI converts 4K to WQHD

The “Console Mode” advertised by MSI for its 1440p monitors is expected to scale the PlayStation 5’s 4K image signal to a resolution of 1440p. This is what the website wants Wccftech directly from the manufacturer.

Commercially available WQHD monitors only accept the image signal from the PlayStation 5 in Full HD and then output it via upscaling to WQHD, which can lead to a blurry picture. According to the company, MSI’s 1440p monitors are the only ones capable of accepting the 4K signal from the game console and transmitting it in WQHD.

This isn’t a native WQHD resolution either, but in terms of image quality it’s still the optically better variant.

The following models from the manufacturer should already be able to use console mode:

Some of the supported models are ultra wide monitors that can only display the PlayStation 5 image stretched or with the letterbox in console mode.
