It is still a moral controversy on the Internet: how do retailer groups behave, who have managed to secure thousands of Playstation 5 consoles with the help of bots, and then resell them for a decent profit? A group called CrepChiefNotify has a clear opinion on this: we are doing the right thing and also doing something good!
This year the term “scalper” has been in the center of media attention. However, since the term, originally derived from the stock exchange system, annoys many readers, we will refrain from using it at this point and prefer to speak of a “dealer group”. Because such a group has now spoken out in the ongoing debate on how to evaluate one’s behavior and wants to show that many members are not perpetrators but victims.
The pandemic is to blame
If you wanted to buy a Playstation 5, you usually had bad luck from the start of the first pre-order campaign. With the help of bots, reseller groups were able to procure thousands of copies of the already scarce merchandise. If you really want to have a Nextgen console, you can join these groups. In the case of CrepChiefNotify, interested parties must already pay the equivalent of just under 40 euros for access to the Whatsapp and Discord groups.
But even after that, it’s not necessarily about getting a console yourself. Rather, the devices are immediately resold to recoup their expenses and make a big profit. Numerous lunar prices on eBay and Co., which unfortunately still find their buyers, testify to the effectiveness of this strategy. This procedure is legal, at least if passionate traders take into account the applicable business law in the respective country. Morally everyone has to evaluate it for themselves.
In any case, CrepChiefNotify has no problem with the practices – as they make clear in a statement: “Many members of our group have been on leave, fired or disadvantaged in some form due to the pandemic. They have managed to pay their bills and have food on the table and provide their children with Christmas gifts. It may be a shame that one child doesn’t wake up with a PS5 this Christmas, but another child may have woken up with nothing. We have no regrets! “
