Andrea Dovizioso talks openly in Valencia about his hopeless position in the MotoGP World Championship standings and admits he was impressed by Brad Binder’s speed. The Ducati rider also suffers from migraines.
After finishing eighth in the European GP, Andrea Dovizioso is 45 points behind World Championship leader Joan Mir. Second Suzuki rider, Alex Rins, is now ahead of the still active Ducati rider, who has slipped to 6th place in the standings.
“Of course, it’s not a good feeling when you have three years like this behind you,” admitted the runner-up in 2017, 2018 and 2019. “It’s not nice when you can’t play cards, regardless of the conditions. You try, you push, but you don’t have any feeling. Then everything becomes difficult, you have to spend more energy to be fast, but it doesn’t work … It’s not nice. I didn’t want it to end this way, but there are many reasons why it went this way. I tried. That’s it. This World Cup season has been strange for many reasons, also because Marc is absent, but even with him the season would have been strange. With or without Marc, everyone is pushing 100%. ”
Regarding the first race of the double Valencia, “Dovi” said: “With the feeling I had before the race, things didn’t go badly in the end. Also because I’m not doing so well, ”revealed the Italian. “On Friday and Saturday I had a bit of a headache and my eyes burned, but only slightly. But today it got worse half an hour before the race and I thought it wouldn’t end well. ”
However, the symptoms do not specifically indicate a Covid 19 infection. “But I’ll do a PCR test tomorrow, then we’ll see. I also passed the doping test, maybe you’ll see it there too, ”laughed the 15-time MotoGP winner. “No seriously. I hope I have a normal flu, it’s still there.”
In the 27-lap race, however, the veteran from Forlì felt “fortunately well”, as he had assured him. “I was consistent, I’m happy about it. The speed wasn’t too bad, especially towards the end of the race. We have to try to bring it next weekend. I was able to ride in a slightly different way. I was a bit faster when the tire was wearing out and that is our goal. But I’m not fast on new tires, I can’t brake like I’ve done in the past. Even if you can’t be satisfied with these placings, it wasn’t bad to finish the race like this, apart from Binder’s overtaking maneuver. ”
What about Binder? “He wasn’t aggressive, he was just too fast,” Dovi clarified. “When I saw his speed, it was a little difficult to achieve. Rhythm shows its potential. And it was difficult because I was struggling with the tire at the time, Alex struggling, Zarco and Miller too – and then Brad comes along who is much faster. It’s not nice to see in the situation, “he openly admitted.
Before that, the Ducati rider had overtaken Alex Marquez at start and finish, who then flew off at turn 1 in the wake. Did the Italian notice anything? “No, I didn’t hear anything,” he replied.
