In these uncertain times of the Crown, one refusal follows another in the regional cultural industry. The extent to which there will be a Basel carnival next spring is currently in the stars. The organizers of a pre-carnival event are now clarifying: Pfyfferli 2021 will take place, despite Corona. Or rather with Corona, precisely scheduled.
As announced on Friday by the Theater Fauteuil, there will be a special Pfyfferli edition ahead of this stormy time. The fact that the event takes place is thanks to a small group of supporters, who encouraged the organizers and supported them financially. “You gave us courage,” says Caroline Rasser from the chair. Especially in this difficult time, when the doors have been closed for weeks, it was elementary.
Edition with a lot of music
Pfyfferli 2021 is all about the crown pandemic, as the armchair continues to write. From the closed Zolli to the pastime during the lockout to a musical story of Mrs. Fasnacht on the current time, the program holds many surprises. It will be a “particularly musical Pfyfferli”, say the organizers. Of course there will also be carnival sounds and schnitzel bursts to listen to. “It will be loud, funny, quiet, contemplative and sometimes even poetic,” says Rasser.
If performances in front of at least 50 people will again be allowed from January, Pfyfferli will take place with a concept of protection in the theater seat. However, as the 90-minute show can be played in front of far fewer viewers one way or another, organizers are also planning to broadcast Pfyfferli 2021 via television and / or internet streaming. Rasser: “We can’t say exactly what it will be like yet due to lack of experience.” Clarifications on the best implementation are ongoing.

No ticket sales at the moment
In any case, Pfyfferli will take place between January 8 and February 21 – in any form. Tickets cannot currently be purchased. The 37 performances scheduled are already sold out with an expected limitation of 50 spectators each. If you can actually perform in front of 50 people, if possible, you will provide additional performances in the advance booking at short notice. More information will follow on the Fauteuil website.
The fact that Pfyfferli is performed guarantees a slight relaxation for the actors. For example with David Bröckelmann. He says, “It’s an uncertain time for us.” Now he has a perspective again that leads to some kind of normality. “It’s also a strong signal to the scene that Pfyfferli is unfolding,” says the actor.
