Albert Bourla, Pfizer’s chief executive, expressed hope to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou that the vaccine will be available within weeks.

For his part, Sakellaropoulou stressed that everyone’s desire is for the vaccine to contribute to the effective treatment of the pandemic.

On Monday, Pfizer announced that its experimental vaccine was more than 90 percent effective in preventing COVID-19 based on initial data from a large study, a big win in the fight against the pandemic.

Albert Bourla, president and CEO of Pfizer of Greek origin, said that “today is a great day for science and humanity” and he is “very happy”.

“But at the same time, sometimes I get tears in my eyes when I realize this is the end of nine months, I work day and night for so many people and how many people, billions, have invested hope in this … I don’t have never thought it would be 90%, “he added.

“We can potentially offer some hope,” said Dr. Bill Gruber, Pfizer’s senior vice president of clinical development The Associated Press. “We are very encouraged.”

The analysis was conducted after 94 study participants developed Covid-19 and looked at how many of them received the vaccine and how many received a placebo that looked the same as the vaccine but had no effect. The patients did not know what they were receiving.

The study found that participants who received the 2-dose vaccine were protected against the virus 28 days after starting vaccination.
