Japanese title giant e Ripple partner SBI he recruited four other professional players for his SBI eSports roster – with three teams so far that have agreed to receive their salaries in the XRP token.
According to an official version, the last group of recruits is a team of four Apex Legends members. Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale style game developed by the American gaming giant SHE.
And all four recruits have signed deals that will see them compensated for their turnout for SBI eSports in XRP, rather than fiat yen.
SBI eSports was launched earlier this year and appears to be part of a broader strategy to increase interest in cryptocurrencies among Japanese youth. From the start, SBI announced its intention to pay players in cryptocurrency whenever possible.
The main sponsor of the eSports franchise is the SBI cryptocurrency exchange, SBI VC Trade – and players will wear the SBI VC Trade insignia during competitive league and cup matches.
The four new recruits were named HaRu, P1NKI, Wasuo and Leila – the latter of which claimed to be a “long-term crypto owner” who is “happy to be involved” with a team that pays players in tokens. rather than in JPY.
SBI eSports announced that “The annual salary for the four players will be paid in XRP according to the wishes of each individual and the terms of our sponsorship agreement with SBI VC Trade”.
SBI has already unveiled the Super Smash Bros and FIFA teams and last month announced that all members of both these units would accept their salaries in XRP.
SBI CEO Yoshitaka Kitao is a member of Ripple’s board of directors.
At the time of writing (15:57 UTC, Nov 6th), XRP is trading at USD 0.257 and is up nearly 5% in one day. The price also increased 3.4% in one month, reducing losses over the past 12 months to less than 12%.
