Oppo X 2021 – the world’s first concept smartphone with sliding screen: Gadget.ro – Hi-Tech Lifestyle

It seems that not all smartphone manufacturers consider folding models as representatives of the future. Although Samsung, Huawei or Motorola have gone in this direction, Oppo proposes a new idea, even if at the moment at the concept level: sliding smartphone.

Oppo X 2021 was presented at the Oppo Inno Days 2020 and I must admit that the technology behind this device seems to me at least as demanding (if not even more demanding) than that used on phones with foldable displays.

The device as a whole is called Oppo’s Roll Motor and allows the screen to expand from a size of 6.7 inches to a maximum of 7.4 inches. It’s not much, but for a first try it’s impressive.

The display is aided to operate by two motors which simultaneously apply identical forces so that deployment occurs evenly. Interestingly, the stroke can be performed up to a maximum of 7.4 inches, but can be stopped at other sizes (7.1 inches for example).

To support this process, Oppo has developed an additional stand called Plate Display 2-in-1. It supports the screen and gives it rigidity during use.

The case consists of two parts: a fixed one, an area where the hardware components will be located, and a movable one, which will help the display work.

For greater rigidity on Oppo X 2021 we will also find Warp Track technology. We are talking about a process of laminating the screen inside with a very thin layer (0.1 mm at the thinnest point) made with a special material (Oppo has not specified which type of material).

Oppo X 2021 is a new and interesting idea, but we don’t know when we could see the first commercial smartphone with this technology running screen.
