NTT Docomo’s summer lineup: 9 smartphones, 8 Android

TOKYO, JAPAN, May 16, 2011 — NTT DOCOMO, INC. Today announced its Summer 2011 line of 24 new mobile devices for launch starting May 20, including nine smartphones, the largest and most diverse smartphone collection ever released by DOCOMO, as well as a wide variety of feature phones
compatible with DOCOMO’s i-mode ™ mobile Internet platform and with DOCOMO’s LTE Xi ™ mobile Wi-Fi® routers (read “Crossy”).

The range of smartphones offers user-friendly features for tethering, mobile wallet (Osaifu-Keitai ™) and infrared-based data exchange, as well as downlink speeds up to a theoretical maximum of 14 Mbps from the beginning of June. The range also boasts the world’s first wirelessly rechargeable smartphone. All Android ™ smartphones, including the popular Xperia ™ and GALAXY models, are pre-installed with Android 2.3.

DOCOMO’s new lineup meets a wide range of needs of mobile users in Japan:

  • Numerous i-mode services and technologies available for smartphones, including Mail ™ area disaster information service, i-channel ™ push-based information service e Melody Call ™ ringback tones.
  • Smartphones that offer greater convenience and operability thanks to the new “docomo Palette UI” function for easy sorting, searching and management of apps.
  • Eleven high-spec, compatible with i-mode have phones equipped with different 3D screens for dynamic viewing, HD quality cameras and much more.
  • The i-motion ™ video clip distribution service for FOMA 3G feature phones now offer 50MB capacity for both long and high definition video. Batch downloads of various contents are possible with DOCOMO’s new “content pack” service.
  • Two pieces of furniture Wifi DOCOMO-compatible routers Xi-brand LTE service, which offers mobile connectivity at the optical fiber level for wireless devices. LTE service will include Japan’s six largest urban metropolises by July and other major cities, including prefecture capitals by March 2012.
