The master artist was born on August 10, 1927 in Kilis as the middle child of an official father and a teacher mother. İsmail Dümbüllü, one of the leading names in traditional Turkish theater, first discovered his talent in the artist, who was interested in theater during his elementary school years. The artist, who continued his education in various cities of Anatolia thanks to the appointment of his family, entered the Sculpture Department of the Academy of Fine Arts after completing his secondary studies in Çanakkale, Istanbul Sarıyer and Manisa, but he dropped out of school before he finished.

Uygur entered the theater in 1938 and acted as an amateur for a short time at the Avni Dilligil Theater in the theater department of the Sarıyer Community Center. Nejat Uygur suffered partial paralysis in 2007 due to occlusion of the cerebral vessels and died at the age of 86 due to respiratory failure on November 18, 2013. The artist’s funeral was buried in the Zincirlikuyu cemetery.
