This Friday, Nintendo will launch a new Game & Watch system to celebrate Super Mario’s 35th anniversary. It’s a pretty exciting release for collectors and fans of Nintendo’s history, but the company today apologized for a bug that will be present on all systems.
As you may know, the system includes a digital clock that features 35 “little details” for owners to discover. One of them is a song “Mario Drawing” which, although it is vocalized in English, also shows lyrics in several languages.
Somehow the languages got mixed up somewhere in the development. Here is Nintendo’s statement:
“We would like to notify you of an error with one of the 35 small touches of the digital clock in the Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. system.
Unfortunately, the song ‘Mario Drawing’ (vocalized in English only), which can be accessed by holding down the A button, displays a series of letters from the wrong language if German, French, Italian or Spanish is selected in the title screen. The English, Dutch and Japanese languages are not affected ”.
When you get your hands on the system later this week, you’ll have to choose a different language than you actually want if your chosen language has been affected. The table below shows which language will be displayed depending on which one you select.
Language chosen in the title screen. Language of the song text to be displayed. French German Spanish French German Italian Italian Spanish
Nintendo continues to promise that the system will launch again this Friday:
“The launch of the system is not affected. Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. will be released on November 13th as planned. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. “
Oh my!
