Nintendo Switch beats NES sales

Nintendo sold 6.86 million units of the Switch between July and September, reaching a total of 68.3 million units sold since the console’s launch in 2017. The hybrid console topped the total sales of the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

Sales in Q3 2020 represent growth of more than 40% over the same period last year, which is particularly impressive considering the Switch Lite launch this time in 2019.

In a statement released on the investor page, Nintendo informs that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was one of the main drivers of console sales. The game reached a total of 26.04 million units sold.

Since the start of Nintendo’s current fiscal year, which began in April and through March 2021, the company has recorded 100.25 million units sold in terms of software (games, for example). Digital sales on the Switch have even reached the equivalent of $ 1.65 billion, including DLC, Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, and more.

Most of the money Nintendo raised this fiscal year comes from the Americas. The American continents account for over 40% of Nintendo’s sales (the total, outside of Japan, is 77.5%, including Europe and other continents).
