The Wellness Trace app was developed by General Electric in collaboration with TE-FOOD and Eurofins, the report states. It seeks to provide a “safe travel experience” during the pandemic and the blockchain it uses comes from Microsoft Azure.
With the app, travelers can get information on the cleanliness and hygiene of surfaces at the airport, with travelers scanning a QR code to access information around the airport while they are there. There are over 45 such QR codes throughout the airport, according to the report. Travelers can also use it to express personal opinions or observations about said cleanliness.
The project will run for three months, with employees using it to monitor cleaning protocols for key areas along with other objects in or around the airport, the report said.
In other news, BitPay has launched a new service that allows businesses to pay employees, contractors, customers and suppliers via cryptocurrency, CoinDesk reported.
Called BitPay Send, the service focuses on international and gig economy work where people have to pay multiple recipients at the same time.
The new service doesn’t require businesses to buy, own or manage cryptocurrency, the CoinDesk report says, and the company said it will help recipients get paid faster and at a lower cost.
Additionally, BitPay Send allows customers to perform various payment functions, including “pay slips, customer withdrawal requests, contractor payments, award issuance and market vendor agreements,” the report states, with recipients that they must have a BitPay ID and a cryptocurrency wallet. Companies pay a 1% commission, but no foreign commission.
BitPay CEO Stephen Pair said blockchain payment adoption is on the rise “because it offers an easy way to send and receive payments on a global scale,” according to the report.
