A new messaging application will have the ability to encrypt messages. The messages will be end-to-end encrypted, which will increase security. The messaging application we are talking about now is neither WhatsApp nor Telegram.
A few years later, Google in the US announced that RCS messaging will be available globally, anyone with an Android phone using the Google Messages application will be able to use the new functionality.
RCS is a major upgrade of basic SMS features that the phones have had for years. RCS features include improved video and photo quality, the ability to see when chats are read, send and receive messages over Wi-Fi, improved group chat capabilities, and send feedback.
Some of the features supported in standalone messaging applications, such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and WhatsApp, will be available to anyone who uses the Google Messages messaging application.
In addition to the global launch of RCS, Google announced another important feature for RCS: end-to-end encryption. End-to-end encryption is not yet available.
Google said that end-to-end encryption in individual conversations using RCS will be possible starting in beta this month and will be available to others early next year.
“Eligible” messages will be automatically end-to-end encrypted and both attendees will need to use the Google Messages application with chat features enabled.
While Google hasn’t revealed exactly when the end-to-end beta encryption feature will come out, it appears that Messages has a beta that people can sign up for here. Subscribers will be able to use the new features before others.
