The researchers note that the implementation of cryptography has been proposed to address both privacy and spoofing issues. Furthermore, the proposal explains the difficulties of these solutions:

"An exceptional problem in most of these PKIs [Public Key Infrastructure] regimes is the difficulty of implementing the public reference framework so that it can be used by aircraft in flight ".

According to the proposal, corporate blockchain solutions could be a practical PKI for aeronautical applications. The document states:

"A virtue of these blockchain schemes is that they allow the implementation of a PKI infrastructure in which end users are not required to belong to any single organization, or to adhere to any single client / server protocol. "

In the prototype, the Fabric Certificate Authority is used for the registration of the entities, the issue, the renewal and the revocation of the enrollment certificates. A system like this, according to the newspaper, "would allow ADS-B systems to meet or exceed the same level of privacy and security currently provided by radar systems in the NAS."
