The New York Mets did it signed with 11 free agents of the minor league, including outfielder Mallex Smith, Venezuelan indoor / outdoor José Peraza, and Dominican reliever Arodys Vizcainoaccording to reporter Tim Britton of The Athletic. Fast-paced Smith was a 3.5 fWAR player, 40 steals with the Rays in 2018, but his production has since gone downhill.

While Smith stole 46 bases with the Mariners next season (2019), he didn’t hit much then and his offensive woes continued this year. He owns a terrible .220 / .290 / .323 line in 613 license plate appearances over the past two seasons. However, Smith may now succeed free agent Jake Marisnick as the Mets backup for Brandon Nimmo in the middle of the pitch.

The Red Sox signed Peraza, previously a Cincinnati Red, with a $ 3 million guarantee in the last offseason. That deal didn’t work for Boston, as Peraza released a tamed .225 / .275 / .342 line over 120 bars. It was the last season below par for Peraza, who has historically been a disappointing option to the pot.

Vizcaíno, 29, has had hugely successful seasons with the Braves in the past, but injuries have destroyed his career in recent times. Vizcaíno hasn’t launched since April 7, 2019, after which he underwent shoulder surgery. He hasn’t been on the majors mound since, but he could bounce back and emerge as a low-key deal for the Mets next season.
