MLB: Arenado’s arrival at the Dodgers is more complicated than expected

Jon Paul Morosi of MLB.com reported at the beginning of the month that The Los Angeles Dodgers are still interested in the acquisition of Nolan Arenado, third baseman of the Colorado Rockies, but ESPN’s Buster Olney indicated that obstacles to completing a transaction “would be impossible to overcome.”

Olney pinpoints Arenado’s contract – he will earn $ 199 million over the next six years – as the main drawback, adding that the contract is “astronomical in the context of tight budgets due to the economic impact of COVID-19 on baseball.”

Olney added that the Los Angeles team would consider conserving their resources to grant shortstop Corey Seager an extension and eventually negotiate a mega contract with outfielder Cody Bellinger. Seager prepares to become a free agent after the 2021 season, while Bellinger is under contract control for another three seasons.
