Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population, announced the examination of 1,342,852 students in the various schools of the Republic, as part of the initiative of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for the early diagnosis of diseases (anemia, obesity and stunting) among primary school students, from its launch in early November to coincide with the start of the New School Year, until Sunday.
Dr Khaled Mujahid, advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Media Affairs and official spokesperson for the ministry, explained that the initiative aims to examine 14 million Egyptian and non-Egyptian primary school students residing in the land of Egypt. , with 29,444 public and private schools, indicating that the initiative continues to operate until the end of the school year in all governorates of the Republic.
“Mujahid” added that through the initiative, medical surveys are conducted for students and they measure weight, height and hemoglobin level in the blood, to detect diseases resulting from malnutrition and to develop the necessary mechanisms to improve student health, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Technical Education.
Mujahid went on to say that cases suffering from any of these diseases included in the initiative are transferred to health insurance clinics, to complete the necessary examinations and provide free treatment. Furthermore, these students are given a “follow-up card” containing their data, in order to follow them periodically and to check their state of health. Continuously, through 250 health insurance clinics in all governorates of the Republic.
“Mujahid” revealed that Dakahlia Governorate was at the top of the highest governorates, as 193,333 students were surveyed, followed by Sharqiya Governorate, 172,000, and Giza, with 105,616 students.
Mujahid indicated that 1,800 medical teams participated in the initiative, and each team consists of 3 people (a nurse, a laboratory technician and an administrator), and they have been trained on examination and diagnosis protocols, and have also been trained in infection control standards, as part of the ministry’s passion for the health and safety of all students. .
Mujahid stressed that all precautionary and preventive measures are taken during the initiative in light of the state’s confrontation with the emerging coronavirus, indicating that the investigation is carried out throughout the year to prevent overcrowding among students, and health education teams in governorates provide students with awareness of how to adhere to precautionary measures to preserve their health, indicating the assignment of hotline “106” to respond to citizens’ inquiries about the initiative.
