16. November 2020 – Microsoft has released a detailed list of support periods for its Surface devices. A support period of at least four years from the date of publication applies to all devices.

Microsoft’s Surface devices have been around since 2012, and support for the first generations of these products has already expired. The company has now released a list of support periods for their Surface devices, where you can see how long their respective models will ship with driver and firmware updates (via “Golem”). As Microsoft explains, the device support period begins when a device is shared. Surface devices will receive driver and firmware updates for a minimum of four years from the release date of the device. In cases where the support life is greater than four years, an updated maintenance end date will be published prior to the last maintenance date.

Subsequently, support for a number of Surface models will expire in November and December 2021, such as Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3, as well as Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. (luc)
