Microsoft just removed five malicious extensions from Edge. They were basically present in your shop. All because they placed advertisements in Google and Bing search results. That said, all fake extensions pretended to be legitimate applications. However, the ultimate goals were far from legitimate. To make matters worse, they used the names of some well-known apps.
Microsoft Edge warning: delete these extensions now!
The five extensions: NordVPN, Adguard VPN, TunnelBear VPN, The Great Suspender and
Floating Player: They were featured in Edge’s add-ons store. All with the same name as the real and trusted extensions available in the Chrome store.
Several people have been deceived. But it was hard not to fall in love with it. However, it was quickly realized that something was wrong. This is due to the numerous negative comments and ratings that have appeared. Therefore, interested users have left negative comments about the Edge store. Others have reached out to the community on Reddit for help.
The problem was reported last week. But just this week it became known. This is after many users have noticed suspicious ads in search results.
It is not known for sure what effects this extension may cause. However, as mentioned in the beginning, most of the users are talking about fake ads in the search results. Others were directed to an unknown search engine.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has given advice to anyone who has downloaded some of these extensions and thinks they might still be using them.
That said, what you need to do is type edge: // extensions in the box where you type the sites address. So check if you have any of the extensions mentioned above.
Microsoft prevents these types of extensions from entering your store. However, it is impossible to control everything. In fact this is something that we understand very well through what sometimes happens in the Play Store.
