Matic becomes the first outside of Ethereum to launch native Chainlink feeds

Matic Network, a smart contract platform that serves as both tier one and tier two for Ethereum, announced on Thursday the full launch of five Chainlink pricing feeds that are set to boost its ecosystem.

While there are many promised or existing Chainlink integrations outside of Ethereum, most of them are still in development or indirectly use Ethereum feeds.

Matic now offers five price feeds: MATIC / USD, USDC / USD, ETH / USD, USDT / USD, and DAI / USD, promising more will come later.

Chainlink’s verifiable randomness feature will also be integrated soon, which would allow Matic app developers to create games of chance or other demonstrable integrations.

The team said the integration will be crucial for decentralized finance developers looking to build on Matic, pointing to several projects, such as EasyFi and PlotX, that have already committed to using Chainlink oracles.

The rush to level two downsizing to fuel DeFi’s next adoption cycle often sees rollup-based projects as the favorites. Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Matic Network, told Cointelegraph that Matic’s hybrid approach is already generating interest, despite many criticizing Plasma as a solution for scaling smart contracts:

“The feasibility of Plasma for DeFi is a hotly debated topic, but there are no other Plasma implementations in production besides Matic. And it turns out that in production it works fine and has not encountered any problems after 4+ months of the mainnet launch. “

He argued that Matic’s flexibility, which allows developers to choose between Plasma and proof-of-stake, can entice different types of developers. “Many apps like games, VR spaces use pure POS while some DeFi and forecasting markets choose Plasma,” he added.

Like other tier two solutions, Matic supports Ethereum tools and allows developers to “simply take their Ethereum smart contracts and deploy them to Matic sidechain in minutes,” Nailwal said.

Although Matic has been somewhat excluded from traditional comparisons, Chainlink’s direct support can greatly contribute to further adoption. “We believe Chainlink’s decision to build on Matic has been streamlined based on the increased demand for its services,” Nailwal continued.

The number of platform-based prediction markets, which have a particularly pronounced need for reliable pricing information, likely contributed to the decision to integrate Matic, he concluded.
