A Mass Effect remaster has long been considered certain due to matching rumors. Now it’s official: Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3 will be re-released as Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The game should be available in stores next spring.
According to developer BioWare, the purpose of the work isn’t expressly a remake. On the to-do list was a modernization that includes higher frame rates, higher resolutions, and other graphics enhancements. The fact that higher resolutions and frame rates are mentioned is due to the porting to consoles, where games were limited in both respects.
Graphics enhancements elsewhere are also welcome on the PC. Mass Effect 1 in particular now clearly shows its age. It is still unclear if gameplay changes will be made as part of the announced modernization. The first part could also help on this point.
The Legendary Edition combines the three games with their DLCs as well as all pre-order bonuses and marketing campaign items. Only single player modes are included, EA removes the unimportant multiplayer part of Mass Effect 3 in the new version. It can be played on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. For Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, there are unspecified improvements over the current-gen version.
The series has its status due to the great narrative. It’s essentially a road trip with great characters that mixes action with some RPG elements – a signal for currently unimaginable game coordination. Additionally, BioWare scored points with the decisions that were made between individual games and thus at least convey the feeling of writing your own story.

Along the way, BioWare announced that work on a “new chapter in the Mass Effect universe” has begun. The brand is no longer waiting after the disappointing Andromeda. The break, which should always be temporary, ends after three years. The next Mass Effect is still in its infancy, the study wrote. Specific information on the type and content of the game has not been disclosed.
