Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been named UEFA’s “Ultimate Team of the Year”, an XI of all-time Champions League players.
The squad was compiled by bringing together the players who made the most appearances in the Team of the Year, even though there were six players in midfield that they applied for.
Gerrard, as well as Barcelona legends Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, made the final squad.

But Gerrard has beaten Luka Modric, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Toni Kroos, Pavel Nedved and Zinedine Zidane, who had all been in the Team of the Year three times, because the former Liverpool captain had been nominated for the Team of the Year more than frequent than others.
Gerrard was named UEFA Team of the Year in 2005, the season in which Liverpool won their fifth European Cup in Istanbul, and also in the following two seasons.
Real Madrid and Barcelona dominated the squad, with Gerrard and Philipp Lahm the only two players to have never played for either side, winning the Champions League with Liverpool and Bayern Munich respectively.
Iker Casillas was the goalkeeper, with a back four of Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique and Lahm.
Gerrard, Xavi and Iniesta were the midfield trio, with Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo forward.
